Interesting Games to Play in 2018

While 2017 had its share of fascinating games on different platforms, 2018 is not without some excellent additions. There are a ton of games that you can find these days and play without having to pay anything. MOBAs or Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas have succeeded in spawning an entirely new genre and are some of the greatest games to try. But, which ones? As mentioned above, there are plenty to choose from. Nonetheless, some of the most interesting games that you should play this year are mentioned below:

Dota 2

This game has more than 13 million monthly players and is regarded as a popular MOBA. This game requires players to show some tactful thinking and they have to perform actions such as killing their creeps in order to prevent their opponents from gold harvesting or delivering items to themselves on the battlefield by using a ‘courier’ instead of returning to base. World finals of this game garner multi-million dollar prizes. You can download this game for free and start playing right away.

League of Legends

This is perhaps one of the most popular games in the world right now and has approximately 100 million unique players on a monthly basis. This doesn’t even include the eSports elements that’s also growing in popularity. In fact, this game has become especially synonymous with the MOBA genre. There are about 130 playable champions with several game modes and maps that help in keeping the game exciting and fresh year-on-year.

This is one of the newest games in this category and is the work of Epic Games, the company that launched Gears of War and Unreal Engine. It is one of the most graphically impressive games at the moment and everything from the attack animations to the environments is very detailed. A third-person perspective is used in this game, but the mechanics remain the same as all the others; it is all about destroying towers, pushing lanes and destroying the enemy base while using cards for boosting your skills and moving up levels.

If you are interested in pitting the likes of Zeus and Thor against one another, then the best MOBA for you is Smite. The game features a wide array of deities that go against one another in a three-lane arena. A third-person perspective is used in this game as well, just like Paragon, which can make it difficult to stay aware of your surroundings. However, the different viewing angles allow you to implement moves that couldn’t have been made otherwise. For instance, Thor is able to launch into the sky and come flying down and crush his enemies with his hammer.

Heroes of the Storm

This was the first MOBA-style game and has expanded greatly since its introduction as Blizzard continues to introduce new heroes to its lineup, other than using characters from its other games. But, it doesn’t have any items and players simply upgrade their abilities as they move up levels. There are also various maps that add some spice to the game.

Kids Birthday Games – They're Happy, You're Sane and Your Home Intact

It's your son's 9th birthday, and he's opted to have a birthday party at home. Great you think, less stress on the purse. Then you discover he's invited half his class (15 boys) and his two sisters are insisting that they have to have a friend each to come as well: "we can not be the only 2 girls with all those boys." I saw their point.

Greg (that's my son) was campaigning for a football party. "How!" I fought "We live in a flat." I had a nightmare vision of 16 boys playing football in our living room and the girls bouncing up and down on the sofa like demented cheer leaders. "Well you promised me the best games ever" grunted Greg, with his bottom lip grazing the carpet. I saw his point.

Boys birthday party ideas do not flow from my brain easily. However, the idea of an indoor football match with high octane 9 year olds spurred the little gray cells.

Fun birthday party games loosely themed around football, where to begin? My moment of inspiration hit me like a bolt of lightning: draw on traditional games and give them a football twist.

Here's my great party games menu a la football. I should say that all the technical knowledge required was provided by Greg!

Team Transfer: based on the game of All Change each child was given the name of a footballer.

Warm Ups : this is Ladders, but instead of using numbers I keep each child a playing position: center forward, goal keeper, left back and so on

Football Challenges : all you need are balloons that look like footballs. Pop a football related challenge inside each balloon before inflating (show us how you've taken a penalty, dribble – you get the gist), start football themed music and away you go. Whoever has the balloon when the music stops has to burst it and carry out the challenge.

Football Charades : using a mix of teams and footballers' names. No further explanation needed.

At half time we had a football themed tea: cheese footballs, cheese string goal nets, crisps, red footballs (tomatoes), green footballs (melon balls), orange slices and the piece de la resistance the football pitch cake. At the beginning of the second half, we played more mellow games to ensure what had gone down did not reappear!

Name that Team: You supply the names of football players, they guess the team. Do not be afraid to go for the obscure (advised Greg). And he was right they're junior obsessives.

Spot the Ball : do you remember Hunt the Thimble?

The Magic Touch : this is very simple magic game I adapted to football by using five small balls rather than coins (probably the phrase 'a magic touch' is one often used in the game!)

Then we went for the final play off (another term I've Learnt) with a:

Treasure Hunt : I made up 6 clues about things to do with football. This took time. I then placed the football items (boot, whistle, plastic footballer, red card, etc.) in all the rooms except my bedroom, which was absolutely out of bounds. The kids worked in threes; seven trios deep in whispered discussions, before racing off to find the objects and then puzzle out an anagram that told them where the treasure was hidden. It was in the bgktia (sorry kitbag) which I had filled with football booty and put under the kitchen table.

"Well" I asked Greg when we'd said goodbye to the last little would be Rooney, "Was that OK?"

"Yep" he replied "those were the best party games ever, but forget using the whistle so often next time. Good refs do not need to." Taking his criticism on the chin, I remained chilled until my eldest daughter (aged 13) chimed in with "For my birthday I'd like a party with fun birthday party games like this, but on the X Factor not football." Simon Cowell give me strength.

Games To Play At A Baby Shower – Ten Fun, Easy Games Your Guests Will Love

After all the hard work of pregnancy, every new mother loves to relax and have fun at her baby shower. A few well-chosen baby shower games can add to the excitement and make sure everyone has a great time on an occasion she will want to remember forever.

Here are ten baby shower games for you to enjoy.

1. Pass the Parcel. This old favorite can be adapted to create one of the most popular baby shower games. Wrap a simple gift in eight to ten layers of tissue paper, then in gift wrap. All of the guests sit in a circle while lullabye music plays. The guest who is holding the parcel when the music stops gets to remove a single layer of wrap. As she does so, she tells a story about, sometimes, a silly thing she did as a baby, or a special bit of wisdom for the new mom. Keep passing the parcel until all the layers have been removed. The person who takes off the last layer is the winner and gets to keep the gift.

2. Down in One! Pass around a baby bottle filled with milk and see who can drink it most quickly, sucking on the bottle as a baby does. You may be surprised how difficult it can be.

3. A Letter for Baby. Choose a letter randomly by stabbing at a book with a pencil. Everyone has to write down a boy's name, a girl's name, a baby item and a nursery song beginning with that letter. Points go to those who come up with unique ideas.

4. Guess Who? Ask each guest to bring a picture of herself as a baby, then mix them all together and see if you can guess who is who. This is a great way to help everyone feel connected through baby shower games.

5. What do You Call It? Everybody sits in a circle. Start by naming an ordinary baby item. Each person in turn has to think of a different name, which might be used to refer to that item. The first person to be stumped is out of the game, and the next person has to name a new item.

6. Baby Bingo. See who can complete their score card first using lots of baby related words. Games like this, which are familiar to everyone, can be a great way to break the ice.

7. Dining with Baby. Put samples of different baby foods on a plate and see if your guests can guess what each one is supposedly to taste like.

8. Blindfolded Drawing. Blindfold each guest and give her a crayon and a sheet of paper, then ask them to draw a baby.

9. Collecting for Baby. You can use a piggy bank for this baby shower game or you can use a cardboard box with a slit cut in the top. Each guest has to deposit some money or a piece of helpful advice for your child to use as he or she grows up.

10. It's All Too Much! Everyone gets that feeling sooner or later, and in this most sympathetic of baby shower games each guest gets to experience something of what the mother is going through as they are asked to hold as many baby items as possible. Keep piling them up until one drops and see who can manage the most!

Games can get things going and help create a really special day for the proud new mother.

A Look at Video Game Ratings

Today is the age of technology savvy children where some children know more than adults. So when you are picking up a video game for your child or when they are off playing in their bedroom, consider if that game is really just harmless fun. Video games are no longer just for kids, sure Mario Brothers and Sonic still exist, but games have gotten a lot more sophisticated and adult oriented. So the next time you walk past your child's games, take a look at the cover and see what he is really being exposed to.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is the organization in the United States that created the video game rating system. This system evaluates games for age appropriateness, content, and other factors. The ESRB rating is placed on the box with a code that describes the game and then specific content descriptions are on the back. These would be comments like violent material and other such statements.

eC is the rating for early childhood. These games are preschool titles that are suitable for children three and older. These games contain no material that parents would believe to be inappropriate. E is the rating for everyone, which is actually for everyone six and older. These games may contain some mild mischief, comic behavior, or mild language. These games are mostly appropriate and make good family choices.

e10 + is for everyone ten years of age or older. These games have a little more comic mischief or some comic fantasy. These games are a still appropriate but have may have some language or topics for older children. T is for Teen and is geared towards children that are thirteen and older. It includes slightly stronger language and some mild violence or other behavior.

M is Mature rated games and according to most older children these are the really fun games. These games contain violence, strong, language, and maybe some nudity. These games are for individuals seventeen years of age or older. Most of the highly popular video games fall into this category. If you would not want your child to watch this type of material on television, then do not let them play these types of games either. Ao is games that are for Adults only. These are the games that contain strong violence and sexual themes.

If you are unsure if you would want your child to play a particular game, check the content descriptor label on the back of the box. This box will tell you the items that may be considered inappropriate such as lyrics, mischief, adult humor, sexual themes, etc. If you are okay with the description in the label, then it is probably a game they can play. But do not count on just the ratings alone, look at reviews by parents and talk to the store clerk if you have questions. Most of them play these games and can give you a good description.

But do not stop there, watch your child play the game and decide if it's okay. Sure you may have spent a bit on the game, but you can always put it away until your child is older. Take a look at the ratings and decide if the game is really suitable for your child.

Mahjong Games – Directions for the Player

Mahjong is a popular game, native to China. For a long time it was exclusively reserved for the royal family, and remained unknown in the other parts of the world. However, in the 1920s this game was introduced in the western world and quickly gained popularity. As its fame grew, so did the variations of the game and now innumerable variations of this game are played but the basic game is still played between four people.

First of all, each player is assigned a direction of the wind. The players can then roll the die to find out who scores the highest. The highest scorer is allowed to start the game and take the first turn. Every player must aim to get a hand which consist of four sets and a pair. The sets can be a Pon, which consist of three identical tiles, a chi- set of three tiles from a single suit having consecutive numerals, or it can also be a Kan which consist of four successful tiles. It should be noted that a Chii set can not be made using a dragon tile or a wind tile.

A reflected set consists of tiles from the initial hand as well as tiles drawn from the walls. Every set may be understood or melded. A understood set need not be disclosed to other players and melded sets are those used in moves when the player required the tiles that the rival just discarded.

A wall is created automatically in an online version of Mahjong. The players are required to move their walls near the center and create a square. Out of the set of tiles each player gets 13 tiles and the remaining tiles are used as a 'drawing wall' and are placed in the center.

Following this every player is expected to discard a tile and take a fresh tile from the drawing wall. In case you draw the final tile, you can declare "Mahjong", that is, you have one the game by self draw. In case you need a tile and coincidentally it is discarded by a rival, in such a situation you can declare "Ron". Your tiles will be checked by your opponents after this. After a player wins the game, the points are counted and this is referred to as Uma.

This game requires strategic thinking and in order to have an upper hand you must be able to plan ahead for the next move you are going to make.
