LA Noire is a game different to the norm. The acting is different than the usual adventure game. The game is truly remarkable. This is a true gem to the gaming industry. The play is quite unusual. This action / adventure will leave you gasping in awe at the many twists and turns this kind of game can take. Nothing is certain.
The main gameplay is not the usual kick, shoot and kill stuff you are used to. You have to make intelligent decisions based on interrogation of suspicions and witnesses. You decide whether they are telling the truth or not. You watch their actions close to help you decide what information they are giving you. They can be keeping something from you, telling you a lie, or simply not telling anything. This may seem pretty boring to many gamers. What excitement could be obtained from watching peoples' expressions and gestures or listening to stories that they are telling. Who cares?
But, you may be surprised at how many Sherlock Holmes people are out there who love just doing that. You may just find it fun questioning people and writing down your observations in a notebook. You must get to know your subject intimately. You must know what drives them. Their emotions can give away vital clues to your investigation. You are truly an agent of the law. You must prove your case beyond any reasonable doubt. The clues you get from the subjects will determine what action you take. You can move in the right or wrong direction based on your findings.
Regardless of what action you take, you can still progress and advance in the game, even if you made the wrong decisions. However, if you made them correctly, the game will become easier as you move forward. This is a game wheree you get rewarded if you made the right decision and penalized if you made an erroneous one. Detective Phelps can jump to conclusions based on lies and deceptions. You can restart an interrogation if you need to. You can save the game as you go along and if you mess up simply simply restart from where you last saved.
In other adventure games you search for clues and collect things as you move along. This one you question people and based on the information you receive you must make decisions. It's imperative that you find the clues to complete the game successfully. You can move things around, alter their positions and so on. If you fail to ask certain questions can be hidden from you.
Detective Phelps is not the traditional police hero you may find in normal adventures and movies of this kind. He is trying to fight crime and keep the city clean by doing the right thing. He follows traditional investigative procedures that are far from exciting. He is no brave soldier performing Rambo antics. Every case he investigates is complicated, wrought with puzzles and obstacles. The game can take long and is quite a drawn out adventure. Many powerful corruptive figures can mislead you, or obstruct you from delivering justice.
Another amazing feature of the game is the ability of the developers to inject emotion into the characters. Their facial expressions can tell a lot about them. You may find this feature quite interesting and unique.
The acting is good, the characters are life like. The music is not all that bad and can inspire you when you feel let down. It's a game you should not miss.
